Travelling free from your sofa

(Reading time : 3 minutes)

You can digress even without going outside your flat. Here are the top 5 ideas to wander your mind during the lockdown.

1. ATTEND AN ART CLASS

You’ve always wanted to learn drawing but have never had the time ? The good news is that now you can practice. Loads of art teachers are offering their classes for free by doing « Lives » on Instagram. To name a few the Saatchi Gallery  offers drawing classes or the illustrator Carson Ellis created a quarantine art club. And once you feel satisfied with your new skills, you can take part in the #30dayartquarantine, an art challenge “brought to you by coronavirus”.

2. VISIT A MUSEUM

You can travel the word by attending one of the free virtual tour offered by major museums during lockdown : London with the Tate Modern, Paris with Le Louvre, Amsterdam with the Van Gogh Museum, Italy with the Vatican Museum, or New York with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

3. GO TO THE CINEMA

You can stream a whole lot of movies for free on Open Culture. If you are Francophile, La Cinématique Française offers you a classic movie every night for free. And the arty cinemas mk2 offer a selection of free movies everyday.

4. ENJOY A CONCERT

Many artists offer live performances on Instagram Live everyday. Chris from Christine and the Queens invites you everyday at 6 pm on her Instagram. The Paris venue La Blogothèque is streaming daily “Stay at Home” shows on Instagram at 2 p.m. And if you already enjoyed the live sessions of the national public radio (NPR) in the past, they have now launched Tiny Desk at Home concerts during quarantine.

5. SEND A POSTCARD

Travelling is also about sharing your discoveries with family and friends. The app Fizzer offers to send a written postcard to your loved ones in several European countries. And every Sunday during the quarantine, they have a small gift by giving a free card.

Bon voyage!
