Camden Town: Beer without bitter

I have to tell you before you go any further, that the Camden brewery is NOT in Camden. Yes, I’ll give you a moment to get over the shock. But if you think about it, you would have probably noticed a beer factory in Camden. Let’s move to Enfield, where the Oyster Card is still accepted, which means you should still be in London, surprisingly enough.


You have the choice between an organised tour or a duo with the visit and a brunch. Guess what I have selected…


You might think that the bitter smell of yeast would tickle your nostrils, that hop dust would reach the horizon. Yet nothing. A confusing cleanliness presides. It must be said, apart from our brewer and guide Craig Vernon, there’s not a human trace on the scene. Instead, a large mechanical arm reigns. The production line is totally automated. A robot and the mechanical arm thrones triumphantly over an immaculate production.


So why covering so many miles for a fizzy drink, would you say? The simple fact is Camden Town is still London’s beer par excellence. It’s hard to miss its iconic the striking red and black design. The classic beverage is Camden Hells, but there are many variants: Pale Ale, IHL, Stout and Gentlemen’s Wit for a bit of freshness.


If you do not come for downing gallons of beer, and you’re a fan of brunch, you will not be disappointed. The recipes are classic but the ingredients of quality.
