Legendary Sails: The Tall Ships Race Stops in Dunkirk

From July 10 to 13, 2025, the docks of Dunkirk will come alive with some of the world’s most majestic sailing ships. This exceptional stopover of the Tall Ships Race is a must-see event that brings together vessels from across the globe.

A free, grand, and welcoming festival

For four days, the port of Dunkirk turns into a stunning open-air floating museum. Entry is completely free, and visitors are invited aboard the ships to discover the fascinating world of traditional sailing. A little insider tip: arrive before 10 a.m. to avoid long queues.
Among the ships, I had a real soft spot for the Shabab Oman II — an absolute gem of the sea. Once on board, you might forget you’re in northern France… at least until the mouthwatering smell of fries from the nearby food trucks brings you back to Dunkirk! One thing’s for sure — you won’t go hungry here.

An event for all ages

The Tall Ships Race is also a family-friendly festival. Several themed villages line the docks, including one just for kids — the “young deckhands.” Baby changing stations are available in some restrooms, and fun activities like (pirate-style, of course) face painting are planned for little ones.
And let’s not forget the music! Live concerts are spread throughout the festival grounds, adding to the lively atmosphere day and night.
